A note from our founder

Salome Houghton, SENCO and founder of SEND Assistant, experienced in special educational needs and access arrangements

Salome Houghton

Send Assistant was born out of desperation. As a SENCO and Assistant Principal, I had to find a way to manage my workload. I found that Access Arrangements were taking over my life!

Resources

Exams Cover Sheet

A useful document, reflecting the recent JCQ changes. Teachers can show what students used the extra time for, and they can also show the difference in marks with and without extra time. We suggest that students are encouraged to use a different colour pen. Scan as soon as possible!

Letter to Parent / Guardian: Notice of AA assessments

This letter outlines the process of Access Arrangements and explains why they are necessary. It also indicates that this may or may not produce the required evidence.

Letter to Parent/ Guardians – Unsuccessful AA Assessment

This letter indicates that the scores obtained, do not meet the threshold as stipulated by JCQ. As a result the student can only have Center designated arrangements, but will not be granted other arrangements, such as areader, scribe or extra time.

Letter to Parent/ Guardians – Successful AA Assessment

The following letter indicates that the scores obtained in the standardised assessment will provide the evidence that a student needs to be granted extra time. It's always best to communicate as early as possible. Fill in the dates on your tracker, so that you can refer to this information easily. We recommend the testing to start at the end of year 9, but no later than year 10. It's not too late to test even in year 11.
